I suppose. Even with a guide, the more of the basic you manage to learn by yourself, the more you can get out of a guide session. Just start fucking around in a calm harbor and san diego got plenty of them. There is couple of SD kayak fb groups that you can join and find someone to go with for free

Plus socal one of the fairest weather place as well. Water temp is above 60 F most of the years. Wind is under 10 mph in most days. Plenty of days with swell under 3-4 ft.

i would have released the 20" pike, it's still relatively small for a pike, the 27" one is pretty good tho, there's probably 4lb of meat on that
the perch can be pan fried and served as an appetizer

Interesting time fishing today. I drove an hour-and-a-half to a trout stream. It's one of the closest spots, and i know it fairly well. I had surgery on my toe last week, and it's kind of infected. I still went out, though. But my boots were tight af. I made sure yo wet them beforehand, but I ended up taking my wool socks off and just going with my thin liner. Even though it was a few degrees above freezing, I stayed perfectly warm. Anyway, because of the foot problem, I fished a piece of water I always skip and caught two rainbows, thus completing my challenge of one fish per month. I think I caught one rainbow in the same spot, but I'm not sure if I snagged the fish or not. I was using a new-to-me Panther Martin color: white. After a few casts, and no contact with rocks or trees or ground, some paint chipped off, which bugs me.
When I left that run, I saw a hunter who was going in, and he told me that he was going way back into the woods. I couldn't hear him well, so I thought I heard him say he was going to cross a lake. He said I didn't have to worry about messing up his hunt. Anyway, I walk past his stand, and he is making bird calls at me (he's hunting deer, though), and I'm oblivious. I leave after a wave and make it home for Christmas dinner.
Winter isn't very productive, but I got out, stayed comfortable, and achieved my goal.

Going fishing tomorrow at an extremely murky lake. Not "visibility about 2 feet" murky I'm talking "looks like chocolate milk" murky. What lures should I try? I have a few rat-l-traps and dark crayfish, as well as curly grubs that look like the white bass that inhabit the lake. Mainly going for white, largemouth, and smallmouth bass. Also I live in the SW so temps have been pretty high for december (highs in the mid to high 70s and lows in the mid 50s) so hopefully I wont be plagued by the usual winter fishing problems
