>>2855912I dunno about Brisbane but where I live in NSW you can easily walk/cycle to some decent walking tracks on the edge of the city or get a train into the Royal National Park.
Ultimately though, we live in a big, spread out country. If you want to go /out/ properly, or even just live here as anything other than a purely urban-dwelling bugman, then you need to own your own vehicle. I just looked on
carsales.com.au and there's plenty of cars for <$5k, that's like 4 weeks salary at the minimum wage. If you can't afford that then get a motorbike and spend some time sorting your life out.
The biggest problem with going /out/ in Australia, or NSW at least, is NPWS's determination to develop every square inch of our landscape that they can. The best campsite in the Royal National Park has been closed for over a year now because NPWS would rather build a set of luxury cabins they can rent out for $300+/night than maintain basic services. Meanwhile, one of the walking tracks near my place is also closed (and secured with enough trail cams and fences that it's actually a hassle to access) for the next 8+ months because they're paving the fucking trail.
