>>286847Vancouver is nothing like the remote northern parts of BC. It's one of the best cities in the world IMO, so it's not surprising you have nice memories of BC.
Some people think a serial killer is behind the HoT murders. I think the reality is more "mundane" in the sense that it's probably several different people who are psychopaths and opportunists. That area is a playground if you're into dumping bodies. It's just easy to take advantage of vulnerable people, then get away like a shadow in the night.
I don't have any terrifying experiences, which is probably why I still go /out/ alone sometimes. Just some unpleasant ones that have left a bad taste in my mouth.
One of my camps was about 150 km up a logging road, a pretty remote place in terms of proximity to the nearest town, but it was a logging superhighway so you still had a lot of lumber-industry roughnecks in the area (and hunters from the nearest towns).
One day a stranger entered the campground while everybody was on the block (about 50 km away) and ransacked a few empty tents. We never found out who it was, but it was probably locals returning from a hunting trip or something.
Another time, a few of my fellow planters and I were relaxing by a campfire in camp one evening, and a strange pick-up rolled into camp. Three young (local?) guys climbed out and just wanted to hang out. They must've seen the smoke from our campfire from the road. So we let them join us, and after a few beers they launched into the creepiest stories about their adventures torturing animals and such. The atmosphere got uncomfortable real quick and a supervisor asked them to leave. We honestly thought they'd come back later and stick it to us in some way. Thankfully they didn't, but we were sitting ducks in any case. This was also 150 km from the nearest town, after dark, so it bothers me that they were traipsing around probably up to no good.
