what do you guys actually use paracord for? i found it bulky and useless, and stopped carrying it. yeah i know you can rappel with it, make a tourniquet after fighting a bear etc. but who actually does that. for tent guylines i use kelty niteize which is reflective and 188 lb strength. i've heard amsteel blue is better in every way, except price.

Really you can using pretty much any cordage for this, but I am kind of swept up in the paracord hype

Certainly my snowshoes changed everything, but I had a 2-man Bibler that was perfect in it's day for the few trips I took it on. Favorite piece of gear right now is the MSR Reactor, but I haven't used it more than once. My stoves usually take center stage, but everything works very well together.

it has pockets and pouches inside for stuff, but i have a second supacheap hammock i string-up on the same trees but underneath the first one, so it's sheilded from weather and stuff. depending on my setup i use it as a bench and a table for all my stuff to lay out on. when in the hammock, anything essential you bring in with you to keep warm or store in the pouches, but the "storage" hammock is just underneath you and you can reach anything you need. i bring waterproof bags for everyting in case of wetness anyway

Love this thing. Takes all of my cooking equipment, stove and gas included, and packs it in a small managable area. Only down side is the Pocketrocket i use isnt too good for open pan cooking.This with freeze dried meals are the way to go for super easy quick meals for 2.

a big sporting goods store in my town is moving and is having a storewide clearance.
I bought a 38 L Gregory Savant pack for $109 with tax.
Loaded it up and took it down to canyonlands for a 3 night trip, and didnt like the support.
I put the tag back on, brought it back, and the salesman pointed out that the Gregory Contour was 75% off. I picked up a 70L for 75 bucks.

I've spunked some money lately on a fancy down sleeping bag, some expensive /out/ trousers, boots, and various other bits and bobs...

But the best purchase so far though has been a pack of 5 pairs of nitrile palm gloves. They're cheap as fuck, a little over a quid a pair from ebay. They're perfect for above-freezing /out/ stuff too. Enough dexterity to light and smoke a cigarette, or put up a tent, or cook etc etc et. Enough warmth to keep the wind and chills at bay. Waterproof on the palms and fingers is nice, but they're not marigolds. Even below freezing they'd make a great backup glove, or to wear under a mitt or whatever.

hahah you got good taste my friend. I love black diamond headlamps and I fucking love that axe. You look like you got the one size down than I grabbed but I know that one does the job too and is lighter weight. Also kinda cool knowing you own an axe made by the oldest axe makers in the world. I like gransfors dont get me wrong but the price is outrageous when there are some axe's that are just as good, or just about as good.

It's the "trekking axe" which is pretty small and lightweight, it attaches nicely to my pack. I haven't used it though.......

I Have had it for half a year, I use it for everything, mostly chopping, carving and also some splitting, the convex edge makes it really good for splitting wood and makes it hold and edge amazingly long.

I've got a Yeti 400 ordered.
It's moving a little slow on the shipping side.
I've already got one Boulder30 panel, not sure if I want more or not yet.
