>>290145Basics I carry innawoods on a camping trip like this
-fire starter (flint steel sparky, 2x lighters, small bundle of matches)
-map, compass (and the knowledge of how to use them)
-h2o bottles able to hold 2 liters
-h2o purification (some folks like filters because of particulates/sticks etc. I just carry liquid iodine or bleach.)
Iodine 5 drops/liter allow it to activate for 15mins in warm temps 20-30 in cold temps.
If you really don't like the particulates in your water but like the weight savings of iodine or bleach, you can use a bandana to strain the water as you fill your bottles.
-proper clothing (see my post above)
-multi tool w a knife. No need to carry a k bar innawoods no matter what the kommandos tell you.
-TP,hand sanitizer, trowel, (if you have not pooped in the woods a lot or become familiar/comfortable with natural materials, TP will make you and your lady much more comfortable. HAND SANITIZER is important, 'poo hands' and associated GI distress is the NUMBER ONE cause of back country evacs on Outward Bound / NOLS type courses. The trowel is to bury of and suppose of your human waste properly. 6-8 inch hole to do your business and for the TP (in temperate forests like New England, NY, etc, in desert, sorry to say you gotta pack that TP out)
-shelter (tent, tarp, etc and knowledge of how to set them up)
-sleeping bag (appropriate to weather/temps)
-sleeping pad (ever since I made the switch to inflatable, I've slept better innawoods than in any house)
-small first aid (band aids, med tape, gauze, duct tape, ace wrap, ibuprofen, aspirin, diphenhydramine, etc.)
-a large enough backpack to fit everything. It's poor form to have shit hanging off yr pack like you're fucking Sam in LOTR. You're just more likely to lose shit.
