Hey /out/, has anyone ever used a linoleum knife as a general purpose knife for /out/ purposes?

I have one in the barn that I use to open hay, and love it. And at <$5 for a replacement, I was thinking it would be a great replacement for my current innawoods knife.

Never tried one. blade looks like it might be tricky for certain tasks, but really good for others. Wouldn't want to chop vegtables with that knife.

If it's cheap, grab one, and let us know. Also, it looks like it'd be wicked sharp.

the only thing i can see it missing is a sheath ( im sure you could figure it out ) and an edge to chop things ( imagine kitchen chopping to do something like cut bait for fishing ) other then that it seems like a good idea also sharpening could be a bit difficult if you didn't know what you were doing

This was my edc work knife when I worked as an electrician in the oil patch. I still carry it from time to time. Hawkbills kick ass for lots of chores, especially stripping big wire.

The hawkbill in the OP is a bit too deep for good innawoods use. Look for a less severe curve. Pic related has come in my pocket when I've been /out/ and it's done a good job for me.

OP here, having a bought of insomnia, so I ran out to the barn to try it on a piece of oak. It's not as preferable as a traditional knife, but that was mainly do to the fact that the edge got so wide so quickly. Its still the best knife i've ever used for rope.

3/4 tang, 1/8in thick knife, razor sharp, comes with a sheath, only $13

sure its not under $5 but wont break the bank for a nice carry knife.

I had a few laying around the farm as a kid, I used them to bevel edges on wooden swords and other kid projects. I thought they were wicked looking, but not very good quality.
