Hey /out/. My birthday is coming up soon. I was thinking about get a pair of knives for my birthday, new innawoods knives. I was looking at the BK7 and a Mora companion.

I want to know what y'all's experience is with them, and what some competitive options are.

I'm looking to get 2 knives for $100. A large fixed blade and a smaller fixed blade

The bk7 is very nice, look at the bk10 its a little shorter, but just as tough, and its easier to carry around

What do you need two for out of curiosity? You can get two pretty mediocre blades for $100 or you can get one pretty good blade for the same price. You'll end up replacing the two mediocre ones in a year or two anyways, so why not just get the one awesome one now?

My recommendation: Karesuando Beaver, because I'd forgotten of its existence until today.

Lasting a long time does not equate to being a good knife. Sure, a knife that breaks in a week would be unanimously considered shite but just because something can last a long time doesn't make it good.

I have no experience with Beckers, but I'm just sayin'.

I have the Mora with the Firesteel in the handle. I like it, the knife worked just fine working through deer check stations and the fire starter makes a good spark. Somebody on here probably has more experience and could tell you about issues with it, though.

I've bought a few of the new production Old Timer knives because I wanted one like them when I was a kid. Their steel is better than I thought it would be and the quality is great for the price. Get a new Sharpfinger for the small knife.

Case has been making knives for a very long time and they do it right. Get a Case hunter with a stacked leather handle for the bigger blade.

You can do those two for around $100 and they'll serve you well.

It's just a personal preference. I like the smaller knives for finer work and cooking and I guess now that I think about it, general shit around the house too.

Buy one or five, they are great cheap knives, they wont handle a lot of abuse, and the edge os delicate, but for a purely slicing knife they are good

I have the knife presented in the OP. I use a sharpener to keep in sharp and use it for cutting up fish. It works fine. I never really use it for stuff that a pocket knife couldn't also do.

Unless you get the stainless steel blade you need to clean, dry and oil the blade ever day you use it, otherwise it will tarnish. Its cheap so whatever, just try it out if you want a fixed blade knife about that size and don't want to get upset if you ruin it.

I recently bought two of these. I mean, why not? They're less than $20. Make sure you buy the 'heavy duty" variety because there are two versions and the other one is kitchen knife thin.

I decided to grind the spines flat for fire steel and then I put them in boiling vinegar for about an hour to patina (keeps down rust on the carbon steel version).

They're great little knives and good for that backup/small job knife you keep in your pack.

very sharp out of the box (like all knives should be)

holds an edge for a long time and sharpening gives it a very great edge again without any effort

i got the carbon steel one, the only disadvantage is I guess that it can rust if you leave it wet

you literally cant go wrong for the price, i heard someone on here write that they buy them by the bucket load in sweden
