you could maybe even have an engineering-based job installing solar panels or windmills. that's a little less wildlife and a little more techy but you'd still be exposed to fresh air since you'll surely have to perform maintenance on any of the equipment if it goes down.

if you have art skills you can even paint famous outdoorsy attractions and landmarks, of if you like writing you could be an author and just live in a cabin.

basically park ranger and forestry are the shit, you can also be a nature guide or hunting guide, best thing to do for park ranger is go work seasonal for a station and ask how to get in, connections and knowing what degree is most hireable is great, plus you can know what degrees will get you what jobs. all else fails go be a vagrant and just travel the world not givin a fuck, its easier than you think.

You came to the right place!
I'm studying Parks & Natural Resources. Other degrees would be like Conservation Management and the like.
I have friends who are in it for Park Ranger, Park Maintenance, Park Administration, Fisheries, (starting) wildlife biologist, and more. I am looking to go into Forestry, which is another kick ass one. I'm working in Colorado this summer as a Vegetative Maintenance Technician.

I think most states have schooling of some kind relating to one of these. These are very conservative and competitive fields, 4+ years of schooling is a big shove in, but experience really tops the cake, though I've heard of people working 10 seasons with a park before they got full-time job, whereas you can get full time much faster with at least some schooling.

The pay grades for these positions are shit. Check gov.jobs or whatever it is. some are lower than McWages. I once saw an Aquatic Biologist position requiring a Phd making less than 50k. If you really want to go public sector in get your BS and get on early because most of the increases are based on time-in, not skill level.

On the other hand public jobs have actual entry level positions unlike the rest of the market where entry level still requires 5yrs xp

I would get into hydrology, water is going to be a serious concern in the coming years and this position will be in demand. the downside is you might be deployed to service some arid, boring, plains-type areas, depending on your state of course.

yeah I second lawn mowing I work as a lawn guy and it's nice to be outdoors all day, especially in the heat it makes my body more used to constant outdoor conditions while actually going /out/

Also they have really good retirement benefits.

My sister and brother-in-law have both but 12 years in at the BLM and are basically set for life.

They're going to spend their golden years biking, kayaking and tooling around in a Westie camper.

you're outside most of the time, and do tonnes of different stuff (heavily dependent on which specialty you pick in the end).
i like it so far, and it gives a pretty good pay (of course dependent on where you work)
i don't think there's an equivalent education in the US though.

working in norway with the forestry machine driver specialty in a harvester can grant you up to 6USD per tree cut down if you're good at negotiating your contract.
