My current favorite is my Esee Izula. That'll probably change when I get an Esee 4.

I have yet to find a more perfect and versatile blade that the Izula. At least for EDC purposes.

I have the knife in your pic, OP.
I've been using it for over a year, the grips ended up falling off within a month or two so I ended up wrapping it in nylon cording and then wrapping that in medical tape.
I currently live on 1300 acres in northern Ontario and it has been able to hold a decent edge and has not disappointed me.

I grew up with Buck knives, never had any problems with them. Recently picked up a 620 reaper (with the viper handle so it doesnt look TOO edgy).

Haven't really been able to use it yet, soon though.

Yeah sure man, It's just that with winter and all I haven't had the opportunity really. There are a handful of reviews on youtube that I watched before I bought it and they all had great things to say about it except 1 thing. The sheath sucks. And it really does. It's functional, but it's pretty shitty.

A drop sheath on the BK 9 is actually really nice. Your arm doesn't have to go up so high to draw it. Plus it sticks to your side, moves along with your leg, not flip flop all over the place. Plus when sitting down, it is sooo much easier to draw the blade.

I also got more goodies in the mail today, my Oakley Assault Pilot gloves(SI military prices 50% off).
They are comfy as FUCK, and the tactile feedback on the fingertips are great, can light a lighter with ease and tell which button are which on my Car starter.
And my two pairs of pants for my Alpenflange tops I got a gun store up north from me.
That fall camo looks amazing.

I'm looking at about 20 bucks for the materials and maybe 60 bucks for the tools including heat gun.
Thinking of selling the other 3 sheaths for about 30 bucks to pay it all off.

Maybe make more for myself for the hell of it.

other than that it's great, I recommend it highly, it's actually $29.81 on amazon, $38 with shipping total. I just ordered a straight edge one like i've wanted for forever because what the hell, it's a really great knife

Two is good, three is ideal. It also depends on the material used. If I use leather, will go with three maybe four inch, if it is nylon, I will go with 2-3 (Not including D ring)

A heat gun is good, you don't need it, a stove top can work easily for after mold mods.

Nice on the gloves man, I am in the market for a flight type jump suit (I dig the one piece, plus being out/shtf situation, I will not have much to snag on then)

Depending on the knife, 30 bucks is highly reasonable. Most kydex sheaths I see, go for around 40-50, I have seen plenty of BK 9 sheaths sell for 90.

Four inches is perfect for me ( I am 6' 7'' ) for the avg Joe.....a two incher will probably be perfect. In the end, when selling them, say how you can provide multiple side drop lengths.

Dremel are good. Get disc cutters, as well as a polisher disc. So when you work the edges, hit it up with that polisher disc. It will smooth the edges, but it won't take off a crap load of material.

Make a picky back sheath, that focus on the BK 9, then carries like the BK 14, BK 11 etc. Seen those ones go for 110 before. Only costs like 5 bucks for the extra crap.

One thing you can do. Is get the maxpedition pouch, make a survival kit that goes inside of it, then have the pouch attached to the sheath, that shit sells like hot cakes smothered in crack.

Yeah, that is extremely reasonable, glad to see you're in it more for the....hobby, then you are for the cash.

Look at kydex sheaths from azwelke for inspiration, his works is AMAZING!!

I myself wouldn't drill holes, inside do a 550 wrap, slide the pouches though the 550. Yeah, the pouch is big enough to put a ferro rod, some para cord, other odds and ends. I think the pouches go for like 15-20 bucks, so adding 40 on the max price is meh, you can easily get an extra 20.

Can't wait to get home, so I can show off my work shop and knifes and sheaths I made.

Thanks man. I remember starting out as a helper, I only made 10 bucks an hour. Jump forwards 12 years, making 150 an hour. Did you camp in the jungle?
Were there vines blocking the outhouse?

Machetes are over rated for camping unless you are clearing vines and plants on trails.

Do yourself a favor and get a nice folding saw, hatchet or camp axe. I like Sven folding saws. Silky and Bahco are also good.

A knife is shit for wood processing but it can be used with the right technique, the same goes for machetes too

If you want to split wood nothing beats an axe, if you don't want to lug an axe around a hatchet can work but its less than ideal, a tomahawk is even less ideal but it can be a versatile tool if being light is important

A machete is best for clearing a trail, but a short thick machete can be versatile a lot of things, not just splitting wood

If you want to gather saplings for shelter or whatever a saw is the fastest, safest, and most energy efficient way of getting them

It's not so much about how much wood you cut as the diameter of wood you want to cut.

I have the 15" Sven and it's great! I use it with ease on 4", <6" diameter Ponderosa pine with great success. I got it for the smaller size and lesser weight that the larger.

But I will be getting the larger 21" Sven and will still plan to backpack with it for use of >6" diameter logs.

And am already looking into the Silky Gomboy with medium teeth and a replacement blade with large teeth.

I do find it better for batoning on certain knives, I think it's because it makes it feel handle heavy.

I find curved or thinner handles better for work with Gloves for detail work and chopping so you don't lose your grip.

Again that's just from my experiences with bushcrafting and woodswork and all my opinion.

I would recommend getting the 110 FG, it has finger grooves.

You are not going to be carrying around a fucking bowie knife unless you like cop drama. The Buck 110 has a 3.5 inch blade made from 420 HC steel, if memory serves.

It's all you really need, unless you're Rambo.

It's a carbon blade, so what is there to think of to keep it rust-free? I'm going to use it for camping/outdoorsing and fishing & hunting. How long can I wait until I dry the water/whatever off the blade before it's starting to damage the knife?

Keep a cloth in your sharpening kit. Use it to wipe the knife blade down with honing oil after sharpening. It's good for a long time in the field if you just dry it before you put it in the sheath and oil it again at home. It's steel, not magic.

I don't understand why anybody thinks that this tang is unacceptable. It's greater than 3/4 and it's really fucking chunky as far as stick-tangs go. Just because a knife isn't fulltang doesn't mean it will fall apart in the merest breeze.

That is a good, strong, reliable tang (Based purely upon size and shape) that nobody should baulk at.

The wait time doesn't have a set limit and will vary depending on how high the carbon content of the knife is. Just keep a bandana on your belt or even just wipe the blade on your clothes every time you've finished with it (Even if you're going to pick it up again in five minutes) whether it's wet or not. It builds the habit to just wipe your blade down every so often so when it does actually need to be wiped off to protect from rust you're less likely to forget about it.

That's the exact reason why I would never use a e.g. Fiskars axe for outdoors/hiking stuff. While they are good for at home use and really sharp, when they break, it's over. With wood, you can even build a new handle yourself.

There was a time when I would have wanted some really nice high-end knife. Then I realized I wanted a knife I wouldn't be afraid to carry and use. If I lost or broke pic related, I'd cuss, but I wouldn't cry.

Bucks are pretty consistently considered "good" knives. Some knife elitists probably look down on them as they are mass produced. I own several Buck folders and have been pleased. I paid a little extra for the fancy handles (even though they are probably less practical) because pretty.

I got this at a pawn shop for thirty five bucks and it is the best knife I have ever owned. Use it for what ever I need and keep it sharp. Hopefully will use it today to clean my first turkey. Opening day!!!

Avoid Winchester knives, they are cheap with ok quality but there are so many options that are much better without costing too much more

Ive seen several break under hard use, not abuse just the type of use most people will put a big knife through

Izula and the 3 are pretty good EDG and compliments the bigger knives quite well
