>>299259I love how you cherry-picked, out of context, one thing you thing you can get away with spreading disinformation about.
No, they don't inherently cause resistance anymore than naturally bug-resistant plants cause when farmed improperly. Resistant insects only happen when farmers don't follow instructions. The one in the news now for instance, the BT resistant worms, were caused by farmers ignoring EPA regulations and general best practices on planting refuge crops.
http://www.bt.ucsd.edu/crop_refuge.htmlWith refuge crops the next generation of insects are prevented from becoming resistant. Without refuge crops resistant bugs form. This isn't a case of the GMO crop explicitly causing resistance it is a case of farmers causing resistance by not reading the god damn instructions.
Could it be the case that farmers are too incompetent or shortsighted to handle this technology? Sure. Should we ban this potentially famine-ending, quality of life improving technology? No, if anything we should regulate the farmers and do inspections to be sure it is being implemented properly.
So please, do some actual research on the subject and not just spout what motherjones or some other fringe source may claim. Read scientific research papers, and then go see what their peers have to say about those papers (google can do this, it shows who cited what).
