Yes sir.

I picked up a j27 this winter and am excited to take her out. Stripping the bottom this month. I grew up racing a 29 so it'll be fun to see what it can do down wind with the planing hull.

South eastern NS, canada. Tons of islands where we are though so you don't get that north atlantic swell like you would somewhere else.

Killer. Maps took me to an area around stockholm. I'd love to sail the baltic. I've sailed over to Norway but that's as far east as I've been.

I'm looking to build a schooner eventually for long distance stuff. Set it up for solo sailing.

my mom and dad sailed our boat to the very north of the baltic, put it on a trailer and took it over to northern norway and then sailed it along norwegian coast back home again

shame I was only there for a short bit of it because norway is stunning

Look at the bright side; that way you're close to the Gothenburg archipelago, stunning Norway, Skagen and basically the rest of the world.

Not that the trip from Stockholm to the Öresund straight is a significant part of any oceanic voyage but still.

I only really build boats atm, soon will be designing them too. but I always dream of building a small schooner, probably a Rueul Parker 28 pilot schooner (pic related) and sailing her down around the med, and maybe across to the bahamas.

I've got a GRP 11ft mirror.

I went sailing a few times as a teenager, but I would like to get this out and do some dinghy sailing. I've got a place to put it, all the shit, but It's been a while since I've been sailing and I've forgotten most I know.

So my question is, is it safe for me to take this thing out, given my lack of knowledge? Would the internet be sufficient in giving me the basics? Or should I look for a course of some sort. I'm poor.

Wear a life jacket, keep a knife on you, and don't get too far from shore to start out.

You'll be good, too many people blow shit up to the extent that others get afraid of even trying. Don't be, just make sure you've prepared aptly, have a plan, and keep your head about you. It'll get you alot further than alot of people here will admit. Then, if you decide this is something you enjoy, but you're tired of being a nooby with the skills, take the class- you'll be a step ahead of everyone else there and it'll smooth out your rough edges.

I don't think sailing as a sport is so big in my country, my yacht club had some youth activities which used dinghies but it was dwarfed by far by bigger (20+ ft with majority in 30-35 ft range) keel boats. by the time the kids were 12-13 or so, most of them quit sailing and only a handful continued in the bigger dinghy classes

I remember one summer when I was a kid and our engine broke down all the time. By the end of our holiday, my dad got pretty damned good at docking only using sails, even in marinas.
