depends on the hunt, if im just in a ground blind or in a tree stand then i just listen to the wildlife, check out the squirrels and shit but if its a drive then im constantly looking for the deer

I've read while in a tree stand quite a bit. Played games on my phone. I hunt with a friend a lot and we will text back and forth some. But generally I enjoy just sitting, listening and watching. Really my favorite part of hunting. Just slowing down, taking stuff in. Seen a lot of cool things over the years. Squirrels are pretty entertaining.

It's not traditional, but primeval! Trekking and camping as a phenomena is less than 100 years old. But hunting, oh hunting is the true and ancient outdoor activity.

I do still hunting or spot & stalk as often as possible. For game that can't be stalked or it just isn't realistic, like turkey, I just sit and enjoy the moment. A nap or two is inevitable.

I examine my weapon and try to stay warm. I write poetry and stories sometimes and then throw it away later.

I guess walking for fun only became a thing after you didn't have to walk all day anyway.
Hunting for fun became a thing after it wasn't needed to get food anymore.

Yep. But hunting is more than just food and recreation in many traditional societies. The bulk of food for most hunter and gathers(ignore people like the Inuit and such that totally depend on animals for food) comes from the berry pickers, egg finders and lizard catchers who are often women and children. Hunting is still more of a thing for men to do and get out of the village for a few days. Much more of a social event than one of actually necessity.
