Never would have bought it for several reasons. Stainless steel, serrations, SOG. It's a good knife now that it's taken care of. Won't hold an edge like a Moore Maker or vintage Case, but it's not bad.

What's the problem with stainless steel? I've heard that it requires more intensive heat-treatment to achieve the same hardness as the carbon steel "equivalent" and so will either be a bit softer or more expensive but this isn't something I see as warranting complete disregard of all stainless steel blades.

Metallurgy dictates that steel containing chromium will be more brittle at a given hardness than steel without chromium. Other than that, no real difference. I've had bad luck with stainless steel pocket knives, so I no longer buy them unless they're Case.

Came across a tent today. It must have sat there all winter. I'm going to come back and clean it off soon. Hopefully it has all the rods, otherwise it's just tarp.

Speaking of tents, I've been camping out for the past week and I've noticed I've got mice roaming around at night keeping me awake. There is no food in the area and I keep food or eat in my tent. Anyway to ensure these critters don't chew through my tent?

they were mostly made out of metal. it looks like a hiker was near the top of the slope and threw them down, which would explain the broken prisms. after that a bear must have chewed on them, because the rubber was all torn up.

pic is one of the big lenses, which makes a good magnifying glass.
