The Backwoodsman is really good for knowhow and learning little tricks, but it can really dwell on things related to firearms more than other subjects, which can make it a chore to read unless you specifically want info on that subject.
American Frontiersman is good as well, even if it is a bit more commercialized. I trust their reviews of products (not that I don't trust The Backwoodsman) and their tips and article are well written.
Just read both and call it good rather than picking one over the other.
