I dunno, man... There's certainly a degree of craft that goes into a "more authentic" log cabin that is admirable, but not having to fell a tree, not having to process it, and using precut 2x4's seems a lot easier. Someone recently made a thread demonstrating how they made a small cabin, and it seemed perfectly functional and bypassed a lot of the hard prework I would imagine building a bonafide log cabin would require.

I think hes saying he wants more rustic cabins, not necessarily that they must be built in the most rugged manly man way possible.

IE- Cabins that aren't just rich people retreats in the woods (which are just houses with bare timber exteriors, hardly a "cabin")

millionaire log cabin mansions i find to be ugly and totally against the spirit of what a log cabin should be. a log cabin was built because it was easy, cheap, and could be done with basic hand tools and minimal time and effort. the logs didnt have to be processed into lumber. just debark cut some notches and lincoln log that shit up. because of this construction method it made them perfect for permanent wilderness structures. those google log homes are complete heresy.

You wouldn't want to. You would have to carry all your fire wood up there constantly. 3 cords of wood might look like a lot but when your in a wood cabin in the winter time you can burn through a cord in less than a week.

Interesting, not him but the technique is there even though purpose is different.

It's because of rats, you can see that they can't get inside because of the round shape of the logs . Even the steps don't touch the wall with the openings.

The fireplace seems to be cased in mud, which should insulate the wood enough to prevent it catching fire.

I want to build a home from mudbricks so I was interested to note how the walls are also caulked with mud on the inside, presumably to protect the mud from the weather. I don't think I could sacrifice the advantages gained from modern roofing and a concrete slab though I like the idea of a log cabin I'm sure I'm romanticizing it.
