let me rephrase: yes, completely feasible

what do you need: be optimistic, be able to adapt quickly to new people, prepare to sleep anywhere
it's 90% of suck and 10% of lots of fun

it's sad but people make split second decision whether to take you or not, meaning they judge you by your looks
- always smile when hitching (yes, Im serious)
- try to look 'clean' (you don't have to hitch in a suit, but try to imagine yourself in the car and then think about how someone would have to look for you to take them)
- you're gonna need a hat
- don't wear sunglasses when trying to hitch a ride (people want to look you in the eye)
- always be grateful, don't feel entitled for a ride

not him, but if you don't have anywhere specific to be its smart to save money for food and emergencies. depending on how long you travel for $2000 might not be that much

It's crazy, stupid and unpredictable, and if you're into that it's a great time. Maybe not for more than a month though, and wouldn't be too much fun if it was your only option of course.

Depending on where you are you should try not to look too greasy, but don't look like a prep either. People pick up hitchhikers because they want to hear cool stories from interesting people.

Not OP but I'm really not a people person. Don't enjoy talking and have much trouble voicing the little thoughts I have. Would it be suggested I just go on a lengthy cross country hike instead?

I'm on sorta the same boat

>Camping/hiking gear all ready to go
>Several months without obligations on the way
>Desire to climb bigger mountains than the East coast can offer me
So, I'm still pretty shaky about the definite details, but it's something along the lines of

>Catch a ride with 1 or numerous friends making a pilgrimage
>Or a cheap ass Southwest flight
>Stay at a buddies house in Az
>Find a cheap motorcycle
>Vegabond for the next 2 months innawoods and onnamountain

Super excited, super scared, would love a partner but can't seem to convince anyone (or anyone capable atleast.....)

I hitched with a cop for a few miles once. He told me to stay off the interstate for my own safety, and to hitch on the state highways.
