Anyone have experience with the DD jungle hammock?

I really like how its all inclusive and pretty decently priced for what im getting

I own it. It's fucking amazing. I love it. I've owned 4 hammocks of different quality and purpose and it's the most comfortable and well designed. It comes with a fitted tarp but I personally recommend buying a second fitted tarp so you can put one on top and one on bottom. It's a perfect wind and waterproof cocoon that way.

It takes a few setup practices to get quick with it out inna bush but it's pretty straightforward.

it's ultralight nylon - you can practically see through it. so in that sense there's a draft because the breeze can go through it. i leave the tarp on the bottom at all times (even when it's in the compression sack) so you don't get the breeze.

i also have the underquilt though for the cold weather - which very conveniently fits under the hammock and the tarp is baggy enough to fit over it without anything getting tight. that way even in wind/rain the quilt stays dry and wind-free and also hangs with the right loft and tension under me. it's better than my bed man.

DD gear is top quality, their tarps are indestructable. But that particular hammock is fairly heavy once you add up all the jewelry, may as well look at a tent.

it's modular, you take or leave what you want. the whole ring wraps up pretty small and weighs about 4lbs. if you don' take the poles or if you skip the skeeter net altgoether it goes down to like 1.5lbs. it's really not so bad. also it's more than just a place to sleep, if you like hammocks you'll always have a better night in on than a tent. i personally will never tent again.

pic related - the DD jungle hammock. everything is in here including the caribiners, slings, straps, poles, and even two tarps (i bought an extra one).

Just curious, why buy an underquilt instead of just putting your sleeping bag in the hammock? Or do you both? Seems like a lotta space/weight...

your body weight squashes the bottom of the bag and it doesn't insulate as well. I just bring a sleeping pad, then i can still go to ground if there isn't anything to tie the hammock to

My fucking back/hips/neck/ disagree with your solution.

This isn't just mindless ignorance either...... I've tried several hammocks several ways with several set ups in lots of conditions. I'm just never happy with them, and never wake up feeling very "rested"

You need the appropriate hammock, just sleeping off angle in a simple gathered end hammock doesn't work. My warbonnet has a huge footbox, and is very comfy for me, I'm 6'4" 250lbs... That being said, hammocks are not everyone's cup of tea. To each his own, and all that jazz.

Try a spreader bar hammock like the warbonnet ridge runner.

I am so close to getting one and the one (out of many I've looked at) is the Skeeter Beater.

I don't want to be the guy with 4 hammocks, just 2, mine and hers.

Underquilts are not just for winter, you need something below you for anything below 70*F

My 40*F degree down tq/uq combo weighs less than a sleeping bag and pad and pack down smaller any day of the week. I use those for the 3 seasons, and i have a 0*F set for winter.

well i camp in my hammock spring-autumn without the underquilt, just with one or both of my bags, and i'm fine - if not hot - at night (new england here). the quilt is very light but mine takes up some room so it has to be around freezing or particularly raw for me to bother with it. that said, aside from sweletering summer every sleep with the underquilt tends to be comfortable as fuck

Ditch the sleeping bag altogether, use a TQ and UQ together, you wont be disappointed. Compressing the loft out of the back you're essentially carrying a whole sleeping bag that you only use half of...

i have been looking at this hammock for some time. i would be my first hammock if i get it.

i really like the bivi option. since im planning to do a alps crossing this summer. and when im high up i might encounter no trees. and im on the accend or decend im not going to have flat ground.

you can add anchor points easy enough if you want/need to... but honestly once you're in it it'll be fine. using some stabilizing lines to keep it from rollong over or twisting around when you're not in it might be a good idea if you expect it to be really windy, but you'll be fairly aerodynamic once you're in there - especially if you take the wind direction into consideration when you set it up

wait till you get in it. it's not like spreader bar hammocks or the milsurp jungle hammock (one of which i own). it's impossible to tip it over if you're in it, and as such the stability is good enough where at worst a heavy wind will rock you calmy to sleep while you keep a nice low center of gravity
