Tips on snaring rabbits?

Gonna go out tomorrow morning and set a couple of snares and try my luck. What do I need to know?

Also I got an outdoor cat, what can I do to make that dumbfuck not go into one? I pretty much live in the woods.

Unfortunately cats are curious so you have some issues, for rabbits decent bait that cats will be less interested in are Brussel sprouts, Lettuce, Apples, and Carrots spray the snare and area down with unsweetened apple cider.

Thanks for the contribution. About my cat, if I go deep enough into the woods do you think it's safe? Don't really know how far into the woods he goes.

Also, aren't you supposed to find a rabbit trail or something? Or is it better to bait randomly? Or both?

Also, how many snares should I set out? I was thinking about setting out around 15-20, is that an ok number?

As always do your own research. As for your cat whether of not it is fixed, breed and other items come into play needless to say I can not tell you how far he or she may roam. As far as trails it is best to set up on trails traps are non discriminatory so you may get something you do not want. If you can find a burrow set up about 5 feet away the loop needs to be a little bigger than clenched fist size and needs to be about 5 fingers high in my experience. Rabbits are generally most curious when they leave their burrow also they are most alert. If possible I would say to get the cat inside. Twenty snares should be adequate again it is placement. Rabbits have a habit of going around obstacles so look for tracks in those areas. Please do not take this as criticism but polish op on tracking (I have been tracking since I was young and I am still no expert) but it goes hand in hand with trapping.

It's a castrated male, ca 1.5 years old, bit of a retard cat though. Gonna google and see if i can find any info on that. Also thanks.

depends on the trigger.
Rabbits can't move backwards, so when they slip their head inside, it's just a matter of time.

Well I'm thinking just a regular snare without a trigger, they go in it, they stuck now, not the kind that shoots the fucker upwards.

Oh. I used those types of snares in SERE school in the '80s.
We used simple wooden triggers, and attached the snare to a bent sapling.
The sapling would snap back upright on trigger, and the rabbit's neck would snap instantly and keep the kill away from foxes and coyotes.

Not any coyotes where I live, though there might be a fox or two in the woods. Still, can't make such a trap because not only I am a noob, but that would be really unsafe for my cat.
