when does camping season start?

i've honestly never been camping before and am getting the itch to try it one of these weekends. would it be crazy/weird to do it this early in the year?

well like above-me anon said, anytime is fine if you're prepared... but generically it's whenever the local flaura begins to grow. it's best to camp when there's green leaves and foliage to be amongst... but that's not neccessary

oh also 'round my parts (Massachusetts) it's an offense to be canoeing/kayaking without life jackets (even for the adults) until after May 15. that's because the water is still too cold and icy to swim in, especially if you fall in unexepectedly people tend to lock up or have heart attacks and drown much easier. i would say that's sort of an indicator as to when, around, here, it's generally considered time to start /out/-related summer activities

In Canada it's May two-four weekend. In the US I think it's Memorial Day. So go before that to avoid the crowds.

Any time is a good time to go. For your first time, head out within the next month or two (depending on where you live.) A lot of places have just started to bloom but the heat of the summer hasn't hit.

Most people camp in the spring and fall because the temperatures are fair and there are no bugs. However, you can go camping year-round. If you live in a temperate climate, you wouldn't even need to worry too much about snow in the winter if you choose your weekend carefully.

I live in the southwest corner of the Texas panhandle. I can go six hours to a comfortable place to camp in any season. Why should I not go in winter? BBNP is nice in December, and even nicer in March. North in summer, east/west whenever. It's nice to have options.

I don't know where Phantom Ranch is, but try Wyoming anytime from November to the end of May. Anybody who says "hurrdurr i camp all year" and isn't fully prepared for snow camping is a greenhorn.

At the bottom if the Grand Canyon. Temps can easily exceed +120*F daily and stay at +95*F all night.

I grew up camping in WA, we never stopped for rain or snow either.
