Any suggestions for types of knives for skinning small game? Ideally looking to harvest the pelts as well as the meat.

i hate moras but its the best knife available for poorfags.

if you want to spend around 50 bucks for an heirloom tier knife get a buck 102.

I have found that willow leafs aka Canadian belt knives are a great knife for skinning/butchering while still having good all around use.
Even the one by coldsteel is a pretty alright knife.

I think I payed like 35 bucks for it. Comes with 5 interchangeable blades that come razor sharp.
If you can't afford that pick up a box cutter with extra blades and that will work fine.

A good trapper pattern pocket knife is what I use to field dress everything from rabbit to deer and it does fine as a skinner as well.

literally any sharp knife will do. you just make a few small cuts and pull the hide off.

I've been doing that since the late 1980s without a problem. All you have to do is use a little care and hold the knife like you aren't stupid. I've never had one close or try to when cleaning game.

it's as if you intentionally go out of your way to make things harder than they have to be. why not just go full retard and knap out a flint blade on the spot?

If you're only skinning small game and aren't keen on sharpening your knife then I highly recommend the Havalon Piranta Edge or one of the variants; Torch, Bolt, etc. The knife comes with a dozen disposable blades and the replacements are pretty cheap. If you do get this be careful when changing blades. They're sharp as hell. I'd recommend using pliers if you wind up having a difficult time with it. The blades come in 3 sizes, I believe, and the Torch accommodates all of them. That would be the way to go, imo.

Didn't say anything about butchering them, I said I field dressed them with a trapper. That means removing innards, saving liver and heart, and leaving intestines/lungs/et cetera for some lucky coyote. I butcher them after I get them home.

I just find a smaller knife easier to control and can do a faster job with one. YMMV, I have no problem with that.
