>>305514On a side note, here's my thoughts on a few materials first hand:
-wool: itchy, tend to overheat or underheat, by no means my first choice but can be effective
-cashmere: my cashmere sweaters are equal in warmth to my wools although they are around 1/3 as thick
-mohair: very easy on the skin, soft but smooth, similar to cashmere but only used it indoors. Good a being warm but not too warm
-flannel: I prefer this on the inside of my sleeping bags. Just comfy and gives a nice first layer insulation that isn't too hot
-silk: very nice feeling on skin, regulates temperatures excellent. Never seem to get overheated in it.
-microfleece: my new favorite. Very good body heat regulator. Use blanket close to skin inside sleeping bag to good effect. also good effect just covering sleeping bag. I'd guess it adds about 10C to sleeping bag rating.
-Qiviut: no field test yet. Bought some for my sister. Super expensive, similar in feel and warmth to cashmere in my opinion. a bit softer and I got the impression it regulated temperature better from holding the spool outside in -10C for about 10 minutes while taking a smoke.
