I usually just bring along a small tin of spices along with whatever cook gear I need. Strips of meat are best. If possible, I like to bring small servings of pasta, because of how dense it is, and maybe some herbs and spices.
Also, are you asking about long trips, weekend trips, or does it even matter?

doesn't matter, tbh. I debated on shoving a few potatoes and a bulb of garlic into my pack to cook with whatever i can get, but potatoes are heavier than they're worth, I think.

Foil, spices, ground beef, carrots, and whatever vegetables you'd care for. Beyond beef ball is spiced up, goes next to carrots, all is rolled up in the tin fill, and tossed onto the edge of your fire. Bam. Done.
