I've always wanted to go /out/ in Oregon and it sounds better than going into full NEET mode in the summer but it seems to be a good way to get outside and earn a bit of money.

You wont be making bank with it, it's pretty much voluntary so you get a small stipend of like 1100 a month, depending on which detail you are put on you might have to find a place to live which could be expensive.

You aren't there to hike you're there to work and you will work hard and long.

its not necessarily use by choice. just like everywhere else in the world, cost of living is variable by region, and unfortunately most areas of the US are still pretty high in the CoL department.
