Start small. Find somewhere within a mile or two of your house suitable for camping.

Grab any old gear and just head there and camp for the night. Come back tomorrow.

Take sammiches, matches, a lighter, plenty of cotton wool balls to use as tinder, a tent, a foam pad, a shitty sleeping bag (You're not allowed to take a good sleeping bag for your first time... You need to take a shitty one so you gain an appreciation for the expensive stuff) and some random other crap which might come in handy.

Do this a few times. Maybe spend a couple of days there instead of just one night. Work out what gear came in handy and what was useless. Learn how to build a good fire and maintain it properly.

Thanks for the tips. I've started looking through the sites listed in the sticky. Only downside is I'd have to buy alot of the stuff you mentioned. The only outside gear any of our family owns is a tipi, and I feel like it'd be cheating if I took that for my first time.

You can get a basic set-up for camping for like... £100? It might not be the greatest setup ever, but you can do it.

Of course, that's a tent, backpack, sleeping bag, sleeping mat and other assorted little things. You can grab any rucksack, some plastic bottles for water, an old blanket and then just buy a foam mat (<£10) and pray it doesn't rain.

When people say how much their camping setup cost them, it can be quite daunting. For example, my basic setup cost me in the region of £350, but I didn't buy that all in one go. I started off with a crappy little £25 hammock, a £30 rucksack and an old sleeping bag which cost my dad maybe £10 at best. I eventually upgraded my hammock and then a month or two later I upgraded my rucksack. I bought a good sleeping bag (And a better one since) and all-in all I've spent, at a guess, £600 in the last three years. Or less than £20 a month. A lot of hobbies cost more than camping/hiking.

Hey OP, I'm a qualified climbing instructor, keen mountain walker and mountaineer. I'll take you mountain walking and mountain climbing for £100 a day. I'm Peak District based but travel to Snowdonia and The Lake District.

I always start the year by going shed hunting, and wandering around in the hills. depending on the terrain I'll bring a big sit down cookable lunch and make a day out of it. as the good weather comes in I'll go further and further and by the time hunting season rolls around I'm up and down the hills like a pro. Biggest thing is to just keep going out...Your body will adjust to it and it will get easier.

go to the gym you faggot.

start with the very basics. cardio. just run on the treadmill and get stamina. then after a few months of ONLY running start lifting a few weights. 5lbs or less. constantly mix it up with running and within a year you'll be good to go. for a bonus in the meantime outside the gym hit the books and learn flora and animal type around where you live.

I live in the city and there is no real wilderness around me. Only small patches of woods with heaily worn down paths and a bunch of underaged faggots running around.

There are constantly degenerates there at night doing drugs and burning shit.

Currently do not have car, so I cant go /out/ for a long while.

Yeah, I'm in the same situation but decided to go lone wolf.

I ride out to the mountain and go hiking by myself exploring the outdoors. I enjoy my time by myself.

I'm like OP and i live pretty much in a foresty area. There is a park with some trails nearby. I want to go camping around there but all of these things are owned by people and it says park closes at sunset. Is it a good idea to camp down there without permission, make a fire etc if i'm sneaky about it? I would hate going to campgrounds where they charge you money and you would be near a whole bunch of other campers. But i really want to go /out/

make sure you bring some decent wood to burn as wet wood or pine needles will throw off a ton of smoke. some people may consider this a forest fire etc. if you must have a fire, do it under a tree with large branches overhanging the fire to break the smoke.
Also only burning late at night will help a lot

Fucking deal with it, nerd. If you want pure isolation you have to go way out into the wilderness (backcountry camping in a national park, Alaskan/Canadian wilderness, etc...) and that requires a lot of skill and knowledge to not die. You have no choice but to start small with babby-style car camping near other people if you want to reach the point where you can disappear on your own.

I did my first /out/ing this week along the mediterranean coast. I'm not in good shape, but the sense of adventure will guel you like you don't imagine.

No more than 2 hours a day of hikes, car camping so no heavy loads, sleeping comfy as fuck in good weather (15ºC), scouting for hidden and remote beaches.

It really was great. Just pick a spot with no rain where you can park non-suspiciously.
