Right now I have my hydroponic tomatoes are ripening and they're fucking great. I can't wait to have some with the romaine lettuce I'm growing.

Praying Mantis eat tons of bugs and don't mess around with your crops at all, same with lady bugs. As for slugs if you live in a climate that can support them get some big lizards, I have one in my garden and they love slugs. That or just crush the slugs.

Well if Arizona is anything like Afghanistan(which it might be I've never been there) then just throw some opium seeds in the ground and hope for the best. It might need some nice soil so look into that as well.

I got poppy seeds from the store and grew them here in Cali. I don't know if AZ would have different laws, but I doubt it.

You can't legally buy them or grow opium in America iirc. And you can't you use the stuff bought in stores because it's sterilized.

Relevant to my interests!

I have already started my garden. Tomatoes are planted (under a tunnel), red and yellow onions are planted, beets are developing fine (grown during winter) and will harvest some time soon, other then that i have peas, radishes, beans and carrots but those have not yet come up.
go to love Texas weather..... until it stops raining for 3-4 months :(

for carrots you don't even need to worry. Carrots grow fast and nothing short of a hungry mammal will give them any trouble. Transplant the dirt if they don't sprout and it'll still be ok.

So my bee balm has fucking exploded since last year. Since I have an ABUNDANCE of leaves, does anyone have any suggestions on uses for it? I know you can make a tisane out of it (which I'll be trying later on,) but I mean, it's related to mint, its listed as an herb, but there's no sources on what sort of food it works well in. it was so much work, and so much food, that we had to constantly invite tons of people to eat it, take some home. the grilling out and vegetable medley never ended, eventually got weaker, returned to a small garden.

planted sweet & purple hull peas, green beans, okra, watermelon, three kinds of pepper, strawberries, squash, cabbage, romaine, irish reds, sweet corn, broccoli, brussels sprouts and a handful of herbs.

LOTS of time with a hoe. made me appreciate the 50x30 garden i usually keep. maybe a small tractor would help?

Well I run into the issues of the homeowners association. I've got an area at the back of my property that used to be a wild rose bush thicket that i'm working on turning into something useful that I'll be able to get away with growing some veggies on, but that's about it. And I'd have zero space to store a tractor because the pesky HOA forbids sheds.

The space is about 40 x 10, my ultimate goal is to split it between growing daylily seedlings and some veggies like tomatoes & artichokes. I have planted some elderberry bushes though, hopefully I can get preserves out of them.

One of these days I'll move to a place that isn't governed by a stinking HOA

Damn straight. I have a small wild pond for the frogs and some hiding places for hedgehogs. Caterpillars are fed to the chickens and their egg shells are crushed up around the salad crops. Night raiding with a torch to get the slugs that the hogs and frogs miss.

Tomato, green beans, onions, potato, and kale are piss-easy to grow and quite delicious. Herbs are generally pretty easy - basil and dill in particular take almost no effort to grow, and attract a lot of useful pollinators to benefit the rest of your plants as well. Unless you have a pretty big garden, I'd avoid peas, they're easy to grow but their per-plant yield is a bit low compared to other stuff.
