Fly Fishing is theoretical physics.
It's fucking hard, you have to know 10x as much, do 10x the work, and requires you to be completely meticulous in your actions or everything goes horribly wrong. The better fly fisherman you are, the more transparent, and harmonious with the river you become. Few people are good at it or have the patience for it.
I am not one of them. It required the skills of a jedi, and I am a fucking line cook. But I've studied and tried it, I'm not so clueless and self-centered I don't recognize it's quality& value. Fly fisherman are also the conservationists that spend the money, and are why you and I have the legal access to and protections of waterways we have. Get that fucking chip off your shoulder, and just thank them. Sure they don't think much of our kind of fishing (fucking live bait? Unless you're 8, that's essentially cheating, requiring no skill or knowledge whatsoever) because it's where they started too. They're just further on down the path looking back.
