>>320799I look for any fallen trees that's not laying on the ground, preferably leaning against another tree or large rocks.
If the foliage is thick in the area I bring my rodent 9 to clear it, mainly to avoid thorns that can pierce my gloves. Otherwise I try to pack light and use my esee 6 for small stuff.
next I start to de-limb the tree with the large H&B Forge tomahawk and I stack the branches for kindling
then I use the sven saw to cut fore-arm lengths of wood from the trunk
back at camp I'll split a few pieces with the tomahawk or rodent 9, and make some feather sticks with either the rodent 9 or the esee.
I make a bird's nest with some dead grass and pine needles thrown in, and make stacks of twigs and sticks organized by thickness. I start the fire using jute twine and some cheap chink-shit fire steel I get for 99 cents. I strike it with either the spyderco or the leatherman, which ever I have on me. I did this in the rain multiple times and never failed me, pine needles don't give a fuck about rain.
if any of the wood feels wet I circle it around my fire site for it to dry out, and I get the driest pieces ready to stack. I make use with whatever I can find, never met an asshat that picks and chooses what available wood to burn based on species, though I do go out of my way for pine since those branches burn like fucking rocket fuel for fire starting.
