>>322616It's hardly hauling it, dude. It goes in my jacket pocket and weighs two thirds of fuck-all. I posted my ferro rods just below that and I've got disposable lighters all over my kit.
People who only carry a flint and steel are dumb though, I'll grant you that, just the same as anyone who only carries one type of fire lighter.
But why the fuck should I care about an extra gram or two or "bulk" when we're talking about something that could fit in a cigarette packet? That shit's important to some people, not to me.
I can only speak for myself, but the main reason? I find it satisfying to use.
I enjoy striking iron against stone, seeing the sparks dance, seeing a spark catch on my charcloth and the glow spreading across it, then adding it to some foraged materials and blowing it into life to create a flame.
I suppose it does make me feel slightly more connected to the men who went before me in a way. They did it like that for thousands of years so a part of me wants to do so as well occasionally.
If that makes me a cosplayer or something then I couldn't really care less. I don't go innawoods to gain approval from other people. I go out there to enjoy myself.
I could just squirt some hand sanitizer on some kindling and light it with a bic but I wouldn't enjoy the process half as much.
Tell me, do you only use your ferro rods when your lighter isn't working or do you get some satisfaction scraping up sparks with the spine of your knife?
tldr; What
