I have a slightly larger model - the one that weighs 1.5kg ish and the temp rating is WAY optimistic. Other than that I like it. Just be careful with your expectations and cold.

I have the Snugpak™ hammock underquilt, and yes I know it's not the same thing but the quality and value of it is exquisite. It's lightweight, has excellent quality control, and the insulation they use is fekkin incredible, especially considering how thin and lightweight it is. They seem to make good products and I, for one, would trust them.

Oh hey Necro!

Gooood very good! I've taken it out 4 times since early April (first two trips were icy still!). The last one a couple weeks ago went horribly awry and I had to abort in the middle of the night, so I ended-up not actually sleeping in it.

The underquilt really kicks ass though, fucking blew my mind.

pic related - this was early April and it was coooooold, well below freezing. you can barely makeout my hammocks off to the right innadark. one is the DD and the other is a small canvas milsurp hammock that I use as a bench and to hold gear and such

I think I can see the cheapy one, but not the Jungle hammock. I've moved to using just a tarp and had my first go at sleeping on the floor on Wednesday night. It went well until the girlfriend woke me up because she was too cold. I gave her my hammock and my underquilt but she didn't want to sleep in that because she was scared.

and that's cute! certainly cuddles help with the warmth :3

i wanna have cuddles too but of course i'd have to buy a 2-person hammock or something else. OH and find a boyfran...

i am really gearing-up to get as much camping in this season as possible, spending the winter on /out/ drove me nuts, plus i might be moving back to the city soon.

City life sucks. I'm in rural Cornwall for another three weeks, which is pretty great.

I've snuggled up fine with my girlfriend many times in my DD Frontline (Before it broke the first time I went out without her in months) so I'm sure you'd be fine... Though to be fair, combined we don't meet the max weight limits for the DD hammocks and you and a big muscly bloke might well meet it... And then some. No offence, of course.

I was colder for my girlfriend cuddling me than I was snuggled up in the down bag. It is not easy squeezing two of you onto an thermarest.

well city life has its perks, but if i get bored on a wednesday i just go camping, in the city you have to plan a whole thing out days or weeks in advance.

and yeah i don't remember what the weight limit is but two people is pushing it. i'm skinny though and my romantic interests tend to be even skinnier than me so maaaaaybe it would work. having a hammock snap is a deep-seated fear of mine!

here's another shot of that night where you can see the hammock. the moonlight was so bright i didn't even need my flashlight

My usual camping friend has done a lot of "Nah, not tonight." , "I'm busy watching House..." and last minute "I can't afford it". The last one pisses me off because it's last minute after planning to go for weeks. I really wanted to go to Dartmoor with the UK /out/ group on Whitson but due to the weather I didn't go (Fairweather camper because I hate hiking in the rain).

I'm hoping to get up to New Forest some time soon... I'm also running a 30 mile hike round the two valleys I live between.

that's cool that you have so many good places around. i'm in a completely rural area but it's all private property and the state parks have weird rules. the good thing is my parents own a vast part of the local forest so i never have to trespass to campout. and there's a huge abandoned field on the hill behind our property that's completely surrounded by forest, so we walk up there and take pics of the view and stars and stuff. kinda spoiled so we seldom venture anywhere else... although we really should.

that hike sounds nice! but damn, 30 miles phew

Should amount to 3 hours on day 1. 4 hours of day 2 and then 3 again on day 3.

Camping anywhere in England/Wales is illegal, pretty much except for Dartmoor. You can pay to use camp sites but they're pretty shitty.

i do car camping about once a year up in the white mountains. for about a week we laze around the river and get drunk and shit. but really we just use that as a luxury basecamp for proper hiking/camping excursions in the mountains. it works, and it's easy to convince my friends to go!
