Anyone Northwest-coast guys know of restaurants that prepare morel mushrooms? I saw a picture of one on /out/ a few weeks ago and it looked absolutely amazing.

Are there grocery stores that sell them? Are they completely seasonal?

I just found some in the woods last night. They are an early season mushroom in nature and are hard to cultivate indoors (although it is possible apparently).

I'm starting to question the validity of morels.

I've covered so much ground in several different woodlands and have never seen one whatsoever. Yes, I look on warm mornings after rainfall and near dead standing trees. Not a single one has been found.

I'm from Missouri. Morels are indeed real. They only pop in spring time, meaning mid-April to mid-May depending on weather. Things such as Temperature, moisture and precipitation are all factors that depend on the morel season. I have never seen any restaurant that prepares them, nor have I seen anywhere sell them.

I've never seen them. Then again I've never really looked since I just go hunt them and get them that way. I know people will sell them for ridiculous prices and get the price they're asking.

I've heard this from some people, but my grandmother (who used to hunt morels) always told me they were under fir trees. We're from Southern Oregon so idk if that contributes to anything.

the season for them is very short and they are somewhat rare so you won't usually find them being sold anywhere. the times i do see them sold are sometimes farmers markets but the supply is very low and they are expensive as fuck

i'm pretty lucky and my property gets quite a bit but never enough that it'd be worth the effort to sell

It's a light, earthy sort of savoryness that is mild and soft.
A distinctive sort of mushroomy taste that tastes like musk. It's heavenly, but not worth the prices people pay for them.

I found a bunch a month or so ago around the Little Miami river in SW Ohio.

I used some of them in a risotto, then used the rest to garnish steaks. Tasty as fuck.

Innawoods mushroom picker here.

Global Warming is seriously fucking harvests every year.

Only about a decade ago, I could head out into the woods and come back with kilos of hundreds Mushrooms, this season, I've literally got 20 edibles. Last season I only got around 40 edibles.

Fungus are really, really sensitive to temperature and Global Warming is seriously wrecking havok. I've had my picking areas whittle down to a mere handful.
