>>328171I think my reply just got eaten but it was mostly agreement with the above.
>>329163This is definitely not a bad call at all. My buddy has been using the same Ugly Stik for years. Plus good reels go on sale often.
If you're trying to go with something on the light side avoid the Berkley AMP rods for now. The rods are fantastic but the guide inserts started going on mine in under four months time fishing fresh/brackish waters. Using plain old Trilene mono at that. From the looks of it you'd think I put glue on braid and dipped it in sand before lining it up. I sent Berkley and e-mail late Friday so I'm hoping to hear from there tomorrow or Tuesday. I'll post how that goes as soon as I do.
Another thing to avoid for the being are Zebco/Quantum's Nitrous spinning reels. Picked one of those up to the tune of about $50 at a local Dick's. Damned smooth and could've been a great reel for a light-spinning setup but it has a huge, stupid design-flaw too. They use a two-piece line roller and the line likes to get pulled between the two halves. Using means curled, frayed or outright snapped line.
Sorry I don't have any specific suggestions but that should give you an idea of what to look for and avoid. Might spare you the hassles I've dealt with this year.
