So I'm no expert on archery by any stretch of the word and I know next to nothing about compound bows. I ended up being given a pair of compound bows from a friend who got them from a friend who was throwing them out.

Neither of the bows have drawstrings and, from what I can tell, they're around 20-30 years old.
I took them to a local archery shop to see if I could get them restrung with his bow press but the owner told me "he couldn't because they were old and safety reasons" then walked away to help another customer before I could ask him any questions. They then sat in my house for the last couple of months.
I could restring them myself, with help from one or two people, but this is where /out/ comes in.
Is it safe to restring? Are the fiberglass limbs likely to break? Why couldn't he restring them? Tips?
