Hey /out/

I'm trying to plan a summer road/camping trip. I'm thinking about doing a loop Seattle- Yellowstone- Salt Lake, UT- Grand Canyon- Mammoth, CA- Crater Lake, OR- Seattle. I'm hoping to get 2-3 weeks off work so I can do plenty of hiking, camping, and exploring outside of the car at each spot. Does anyone have any can't miss stops? Are there better, lesser known places to check out instead? Thanks!

Check out Zion National park, probably one of the most beautiful places out west I've gone. I have a bunch of (not digitized) photos, so this is the best I can do.

Fremont forest near Alturas (california-oregon border)
Sorry if this is not specific, but there's a prominent mountain visible on highway 395 near Alturas that looks like a big nipple. There's a campsite near it that has a trailhead leading up to the summit of a mountain right next to it.
It's about a 2-3 hour hike, very high altitude and windy as fuck, but you will get one of the most spectacular views of the Oregonian high desert that you will ever see in your existence.

Doesn't sound worth it, but it's all I've got.

I'd suggest driving along the coast in Oregon. Cape Perpetua is a pretty incredible place. Though, alternatively, you could drive through the High Desert (maybe rt 97? The Dalles-California hwy). There's much more to see and do driving along that route north than there is on the straight line that is I-5 in Oregon.
