The knives, enh, I never put any faith in things like that, he's trying to make money, just like everyone else. They probably offered him a decent sum for his name.

The bigfoot specials weren't a typical bigfoot special sort of show. I enjoyed them since he wasn't saying ti was real, wasn't saying it wasn't real, it was a 'I've heard weird shit and seen weird shit before, maybe it's this, maybe not.'

I actually got more into /out/ type things because of his show back when it launched. Pissed off the neighbors when they saw a deadfall in my backyard.

I have the same feeling about him selling products as the other guy, they want to make money and exploiting dumb consumers is an easy way to do so. Knives peddled by a celebrity outdoorsman appeal to teenagers with no real knowledge spending their parents' money.

I intentionally watched the bigfoot special while drunk with my roommates and it was fucking priceless (I like the trend of calling for bigfoot with weird ass screams I'm seeing in newer specials). I don't think he's serious about it. Everyone hears weird shit in the woods, and like the knives this was a money making opportunity riding on the current wave of "monster shows".

Pretty much this. LES SHROUD-Ing is sort of a running joke in the group of friends I go on /out/ings with. We actually all get together once every couple of weeks to watch the bigfoot specials and get blind drunk.

It's just TV, OP. Don't get too riled up about it. He seems like a good guy. Everybody's got to pay the rent.

I was never a big fan. My opinion is that the guy likes the outdoors and has some skills and common sense. He also takes a very authentic approach to producing his material. Aside form that he's no big deal. There are far more knowledgeable and skilled outdoorsman or "survivalists" that have become famous. Ray Mears and Cody Lundin come to mind. They sell products and courses too and from what I hear the quality is exceptional.

2) he kind of has a way of getting on my nerves with the shit he does. the last episode i saw, he got a shell from the beach and filled it up with water from a nearby stream to boil it so he can have fresh water. again thats a good thing. but he only did it with one goddamn shell, so he would have to go back and forth a million goddamn times to get water. why not just get like 10 shells and fill them all up or something.

the nigga makes shit to hard on himself for no goddamn reason

At the end of the day, no matter how much shit he talks about Bear Grylls and the like, he's still producing an entertainment show. The general retard isn't going to understand how difficult it is nor have the attention span to watch a guy live easy and comfortably with infinite water and shelter. Sometimes he has to invent danger/excitement.

As far as a "survivalist", sure maybe. But do those guys have the filmmaking experience? The ability to create beautiful shots? Maintaining equipment? Actually entertaining an audience? Ray probably, but I doubt Cody can. Plus Cody is a pretty specialized survivalist, with most of his experience in deserts.

Regardless, all I'm saying is he has the solo film experience that very few others have, especially at the quality he produces.

bear grylls was a created personality by discovery executives. they saw canada being fairly successful with surivirorman, but les stroud wasn't particularly attractive and didn't take risks. Basically he was a room of executives trying to sex up survival, which is why he is on the receiving end of a lot of vitriol. I think survivorman, as a show has gone down hill, the shows with his son, were pretty okay. I guess his son was recently diagnosed with leukemia and now Les is doing fundraisers for it and lyme disease.
