>>335688Both sound probable. I am still getting used to timing on my backcasts so it's very possible I'm forward casting too early. I also naturally want to cast hard on my forward cast, probably habit from spinfishing all my life. Both good notes.
>>335719>>335717Ah, it wasn't necessarily knots, just the line getting jumbled around the rod tip, likely due to timing and/or excessive force. I did learn the wet-knot technique or, rather, how important it is in fly fishing.
I just got out on the water with the rig for the first time today. Tough to cast from shore with 3ft weeds behind me, but I did pull in a few little bluegill, so I got some practice setting and landing. I did notice I was only hooking up with the fish about 1/7 bites. I was using a popper that came with my combo with a pretty small hook, even for bluegill. I tried both setting with the rod and setting with a quick strip but couldn't really get results on either. Is this the nature of the beast or is something major missing in the equation?
