>>339756I was living there already working as a temp resident but decided to do my master's degree there (which costs like 5x more for non-residents). soooo i changed my visa over to a student visa and did the degree while still working part-time. if you do a 2yr+ full degree you get awarded with a work permit worth 1.5 years - this allows people who have invested in australia the chance to use their degrees/get a job/become a member of society. the economy makes more money on foreigners doing degrees than almost anything else (besides mining), and there's no incentive to do a degree acredited in aus if you have to leave immediately and try to use it somewhere else.
SO I did the two year degree, was going to get my 18 month visa so I could go back to full time work and within about 10 months would qualify for residency... because in the almost 5 years i lived there i had racked-up the work experience and education points to do so.
WELL after spending 6 figures and 2 years holding-down essentially 2 jobs i finished my degree and they took away the 18-month visa program - which equates basically to extortion. there was such a horrid backlask and drop in uni enrolments that they reversed it immediately but not retroactive, meaning i fell through the cracks and lost everything.
now i'm in the USA, homeless, defaulting on debt that has now ballooned to over $200k for a degree that isn't accredited in this country. job/career is lost, home is lost, my life is ruined with debt for probably 20 years if things GO WELL, all my friends and romantic interests are gone to me now, and i sleep on a canvas cot in my friend's basement wondering how i can even afford to get a job.
