>>342347It's too large for carving, and gutting small fish or skinning anything smaller than a deer. You would much rather use a standard puukko, or a specialized carving/gutting/skinning knife for those tasks.
It's too small for chopping down anything larger than a twig (riuku) efficiently. You can build a shelter with it, but you'd save yourself a lot of effort by using a larger blade like a Sami knife or a billhook.
It's basically only useful as a chopping tool (or weapon) and for splitting firewood. It's an all-a rounder that tries to be decent at everything, but ends up being pretty bad at everything. The teflon coating adds very little value to an already expensive knife, and wears out somewhat quickly in my experience.
However, the sissipuukko is very durable and is considered a mark of status among Finnish conscripts. It's a knife for manly men doing manly things, like killing imaginary enemies hiding out in the woods.
Pic related is a much better belt knife and companion to a large blade or billhook. The only reason I don't use one is the price. I make do with a carbon steel 35€ 11 cm blade Marttiini with a rubberized grip. I have to admit that sometimes I bring along the sissipuukko for log splitting if I don't expect to build a shelter, but if I do, I bring a billhook with me.
