How about neither and instead get your hands on the Snow Peak titanium 700. You could probably find it cheaper than the steap MSRP price on a website like ebay or by doing a google search.

It's light weight like aluminum but with the durability and long time use of steel. Good middle ground between the two. There is the steep price of it but you get your money's worth after having it for so long. Obviously the bottom of it will take a pretty good staining when using directly over a camp fire but nothing that you can't get off with softscrub once you get off the trail.

Stainless is preferred for cooking.
Aluminum is light, but you shouldn't cook zesty stuff in it - changes taste.
Titanium is both light and fine to cook anything in.

If you're only boiling water, it may be worth looking at the tiny gas stoves which come with a tiny pot for boiling water and a cup to eat out of. Or a kelly kettle.

A steel billy is fine though, if you're going to be having fire anyway.
