Hey /out/, REI salesfag here.
A few nights ago some anons were asking about jobs at REI, there's been a bit of a freeze on lately but I talked to one of my bosses and confirmed that there will be a Spring hire group this year.
All applications are done through the website.
Hiring fair is pretty chill. You'll have a short one on one interview at first, and if you get picked from that group you'll go to a group interview for round two. If you make it to the group interview, you're pretty much in.
Don't worry about super /out/doorsy, they'll train you for everything you need to know. Mostly they're looking for how well you get on with people and your ability to communicate information to the customers. And if you're not very good at that, they'll just put you on the cashier line.
Everybody starts out part-time on a seasonal stint, so after the summer they'll decide if they want to keep you on. They're pretty good about internal promotion as well, especially for Community Outreach and the Outdoor School.
And if nothing else, it's a fun summer job and you can prodeal a bunch of new gear.
And remember. Leave /out/ better than how you found it, for the enjoyment of others.
