It's estimated that T-rex's may have grown to 8t, male African Elephants grow to 6t normally with the largest specimen being 10t. T-rex's also had a bird like skeleton with lightweight bones whilst an elephant has extremely heavy bones like most other herbivores. This makes a T-rex a softer target than a modern day Elephant.

Elephants have been hunted with all sorts of calibres and I think any modern dangerous game cartridge would be more than a match for a T-rex, they aren't made of magic.

As far as stressed shooting and actually hitting goes, an Elephant hustles at 40kph which is nearly as fast as Usain Bolt and about the same speed which is currently theorised that a T-rex would run at, coupled with the fact that an Elephant can and will kill people with a single blow, you're hardly in a less dangerous situation facing down an upset bull Elephant and yet it was done for years by people with far smaller guns than what are used in Africa today.

so your round is going to have to go through a foot or two of facial bone and muscle and still retain enough force to penetrate another half foot of bone that's hard as concrete.

and you'll be aiming for a target small enough to be literally like a needle in a haystack.

Elephants have huge brains under very little tissue, in easy to hit places.

To get this thread back on track let me say what I would like to hunt in such a situation

First, to get a hang of the differences with prehistoric hunting I would hunt mammoths with a hunting party and elephant rounds or anything stronger (not a gun expert ). This would continue as I scale up the size of prey while scaling down the party size. Ultimately, given enough confidence and practice, I feel a solo excursion with a high powered rifle to take down one of the huge sauropods or t-rex. While most likely very challenging, it would be quite the rush.

After seeing that megaladon picture, tackling one of those would be quite the ride. Given the dangers of the hunt, it would have to be a death wish situation, but going out to sea against such terrors led by a captain Ahab esque figure would be truly epic.

T-rex's bone structure is lightweight throughout its body, none of its bones are dense/solid unlike an elephant, also most of it's skull is taken up with olfactory cavities not bone making it very hollow. It has large, thick attachment points at the back of the skull for its jaw muscles but you're not going to be shooting at it from the back.

I didn't want to but it left me no choice. If it wasn't out finding food it was pecking the window. No matter how many times I chased it away or sprayed water at it, it wouldn't leave. I even tried putting a piece of cardboard against the window but he'd try to sit on the edge to get to the glass.

When it comes to intelligence levels I guess they're at the bottom. Or he was just fucked in the head.
