>>346035>It seems that all info graphics and articles give wildly separate information on how to deal with a bear confrontationNot really. If the bear stalks you and attacks without warning then it's probably a predatory attack, if not then it's defensive. In the former you fight the bear for your life with whatever you have to hand, and in the latter you make a lot of noise to avoid taking a bear by surprise - and if worst comes to worst and you surprise a bear and can't back off then you play dead until the bear decides you're not a threat.
>and I have never heard of any technique having a significant chance of saving you if the bear actually wants you deadAttack its head (particularly the eyes and snout) with whatever you have to hand; in this scenario bear spray > firearms >>>> anything else. There's no silver bullet for a bear encounter like there is for sharks.
>Or that certain behaviors might keep a bear from wanting you deadPretty much all you have to do to avoid bear encounters is to just make plenty of noise innawoods and don't give them a reason to snoop around your camp/truck/cabin/etc.; they have excellent hearing and will fuck right off when they hear you coming under virtually every circumstance and if they can't get into your food or supplies then they'll wander off and look for an easier meal somewhere else.
