Their duty is the protection of the country and citizens and I can't see many willing to carry out such a FUBAR'd order. Even with full strength ranks, they would honestly struggle (if not impossible) with force projection to maintain control over every town and village.
In my country I think whichever SHTF scenario occurs survival rate would be abysmal. Too high density population, too few areas of wilderness and the large wilderness are barren moors/mountains without much cover/resources. Woodland is tiny pockets here and there.
Best odds would probably stock at least 3 months of food/water and barricade the house. Possibly linking up with friends to form a smallish group. If survive initial shit, emerge once the mass die off is over and things have settled down a bit to try and loot supplies. Re-assess situation. Formulate plan.
This of course requires prep.
