>>348392the klr 650 is a great bike and even better of you're a big guy like both you and i am ( im a bit shorter and heavier)
the klr 650 should be fine for dirt roads and gravel etc and dirt paths etc
the only things it struggles with is things like mud where it would sink in because of the weight and tight trails
i love the big dual sports and i grew up riding an xr 650
i havnt ad the pleasure of riding one of the newer klr's so im not comfortable saying one is better than the other but the old klr's with certain mods are pretty indestructible
as for mods
a comfy aftermarket seat is a good idea the thumper engine and the somewhat shitt stock seat an make your ass go numb but this is nothing more than comfort
Some bark busters/ hand guards can help your levers from being fucked up when you go down and it can also keep your hands for getting beat up going through brush etc
some sort of crash bars/frame sliders/axel sliders will help prevent dammage incase you ever wreck it or drop it
you can do various weight reducing things and other things like tank bags etc
for highway use alot of people change the gearing for higher top speed
alot of people do these mods
22 cent mod
685 kit
A noisemaker saves like 15 lbs
snorkel removal
swap out the slippery pegs
>>348403the klr650 is fine for a woods bike / trail bike
its a thumper so not too much power for a newbie
tbh for a woods bike a 250 or a 400 would be a bit better depending on what you want to do but the 650's are just fine as woods bike
plus rediculous reliability
he isnt op so i dont know his budget
>>348392i wouldnt spend more than 3k for any " woods bike" for just messing around
just go on your local craigslist put in a 2k cash limit sort high to low and look for something running that is street legal
you may be able to find something great
