In my opinion you should opt for leather oil, dubbin and polish, in that order. Repeat every month or after every long hike. Pic related is the best choice for dubbin, although I'm not certain how easily available it is in the US. For polish I'd recommend something else than Kiwi, since it's nutritional and waterproofing properties aren't optimal. Steer clear of Kiwi Parade Gloss. Silicone isn't good for leather.
For washing I'd recommend glycerol-based saddle soap, although in most cases water will do.
