>>350342start by hiking, imo. Doesn't even have to be long walks, start by doing /fit/ stuff, such as jogging, and start following forest trails. When you start to feel comfortable, take a stroll around the local forest (Stay in sight of the trail!). Start to identify the local flora, perhaps look for tracks in mud and/or vegetation.
If you own a piece of property with some forest, great. Try to set up a camp there, but be sure that you can always get out if you can't do it. First spend some time getting used to your land (such as what I said earlier, and I can't stress this enough, do anything to not get lost), then try to set up a camp for a day. Then do a weekend, and just keep making the trips longer. Start to bring less stuff, and learn how to do more stuff with what you can find. Learn knots at home, read about your flora. Spend time on /out/ and other "outdoors" forums.
I don't know, I was born and raised in this environment, but I'd imagine that's how I'd do it. That's what I did with my current wife, just started to bring her on hikes into the forest, then venture a bit further out until she agreed to spend a night, then a weekend, then 4 days, then a week and so on. I kept teaching her new stuff tho, so she didn't have to do alot of background research.
Good luck, OP, and don't go off doing some Rambo shit, or you might not return.
