Is anyone else deathly afraid of centipedes? How can abominations like these exist? From what i've heard though, they are bros for eating pests. Still, they are spooky looking.

I found pic related in my basement last night. Not sure if it was a babby or not. It was moving pretty slow as well.

centipedes are horrible. most you find in the US are pretty much harmless and do the good work of spiders as you said, but you get into the tropics all all bets are off. my dad said he shared a muddy mucky foxhole with a Vietnamese centipede one night during monsoon, and he was the only dry thing around so for like 10 hours the thing kept crawling around on him. Fuuuuuuuck thatshit.

Oh fuck no. When I was a kid, I was sitting down watching cartoons, when as soon as I turned towards the wall, I was greeted by a mess of tangled legs moving in unison. I ran out of there screaming for my life. That was the first time I saw a centipede and that's probably what set in my fear of them.

I had an apartment in Boston FULL of scutegera coleoptrata. i caught one in a jar once and watched it try to run up the walls, in place, for hours. all 30 legs zipping in perfect turn like an impulse traveling down the bristles of a comb. motherfuckers used to get the drop on me in the shower too.

You're not alone OP. Centipedes, palmetto bugs, and american cockroaches are the only things that give me pants pissing irrational terror.

I'm fine with house centipedes and those little german cockroaches but the larger one creep the fuck out of me. I think it's the size and the speed of them.

I woke up in the middle of the night with a medium sized one biting the soft bit of skin between my thumb and pointer. It stung for hours, a lot more than I expected. I've seen some here as thick as my middle finger and some up to 10 inches long

Every time I turn over something that's been on the ground in my yard for more than a day or two at least one of these is under it. I've seen them up to about seven inches long, this guy was around five. The chickens love to eat them and it's quite a battle when you put one in the coop.

I'd see a centipede, and yeah it's gross, but I don't mind killing it or trapping it and taking it outside. But if I see a roach, I walk out of the room and let it take over my house.
