I grew up an hour or so from the Adirondacks and fucking love it up there.

They have a few natural waterslides they call bear slides. Pretty nifty.

I've been going there since I was a kid. I don't know anything about the south half of the park, I went to Old Forge once and rarely go further south than Long Lake. St. Regis Canoe Area and the Saranac Lakes are God's Country.

I'm also (slowly) working on becoming a 46er. 14 down for now.

Lot of family up there. Great people. Good for moderate difficulty climbs. My grandfather immigrated to Lyon mountain from Poland and worked in the mines until WW2.

went up there with Boy Scouts once. It was really fucking cold, and I got hypothermia for being a retarded kid and I fell asleep sitting outside. The sleeping was really cozy inside of the cabin we were in, and the snow everywhere and frozen waterfalls were awesome.

Won't find much in the dacks for remote wilderness w a body of water.if you're willing drive a little bit, cranberry lake area is a bit more remote than long lake. But the trip is more or less a lollipop trip.
Other fun option similar to long lake, is the Fulton chain of lakes up to Forked and or Raquette lake.

nPT has huge sections that are flat. If you have a map, as you reach the mid point on long lake, bushwhack up blueberry mtn, it is all open slab at the top. Wonderful views of long lake and the surrounding area. Short hike (20 mins tops)
There have been some small rock seats errected up on top of blueberry for a number of years

Mom's from there, used to go all the time as a kid.

Went back for the first time in 10 years last September. It's a great place. Weather can turn to shit real fucking quick though, and it doesn't give a fuck if you're still out on the canoe when it decides to rain.

Your calves will be on fire, but I think you could do more distance in a day. I think a person can get about 5 miles in a hour at a steady pace. If you had a bike, you could probably do the entire trek within a day. Not sure what the route is like.
