I'm one of the few advocates on this board for a tomahawk but they are only good within their limited scope, in my mind they are good if you know you don't need an axe or a hatchet but want to take something light weight to supplement and save your knife in case you have some unexpected chopping or other rough work, you could also just pack the head and make a field expedient handle to cut down on weight and bulk, plus its a good way to kill time and whittle for a bit
They are also a lot of fun for friendly throwing competitions with friends and family, but in the end they aren't as good at splitting as a decent hatchet and the aren't great for a lot of felling work, you can make a longer handle to give you some extra leverage and cover some of their weakness but the thin bit will mostly bite deep instead of splitting like more wedge shaped axes and hatchets
