Sup /out/.

I went hiking in the french Alps for a few days and noticed that out of all the people i met, litterally none of them was wearing a scarf/shemagh.

So, what is /out/'s opinion on wearing a shemagh/scarf while out ? Does everyone find it useless, or is it just that the people i met were tacticool guys who just hate anything which isn't techclothing ?

If it is an environment where sun protection is necessary, go for it. I have two I bought mountaineering in Pakistan. I use them climbing, skiing, backpacking and canoeing. Where ever I need sun pro. I only use sunscreen if I have to because I hate the stuff. Even the not oily face stuff is terrible

Not very. I do know their origin yes. Maybe it doesn't matter as much since it's so dry there things will evaporate alright anyways. It would be stifling in much humidity like I'm used to though.

Keeps the sun off you, but is extremely breathable so you aren't overheating like a motherfucker. You can douse it with water and catch a breeze to keep cool. Great for when you're doing yardwork, and you can cover your mouth and nose with it so you don't breathe in a bunch of fucking dust when pulling out dead trees from the dried decrepit earth. It also comes in handy during a dust storm, which we have a lot during monsoon season. I guess in winter it would work ok as a scarf and to take the wind chill on your face down a notch, but not any better than a regular scarf and it doesn't really get cold enough here to necessitate that.

It's pretty nice when you're out near the bayou and there's mosquitoes fucking everywhere.
Throw some water on it and pull it over your neck.
No sense in making a full mask out of it unless you're in a dust storm or you're hunting in winter, but they're fairly versatile items.

I also don't own a scarf so I use it in the winter with my jacket because it doesn't have a hood.

I wear a shemagh in Paris all the time, nobody cares, they can't even tell the difference with "chèches" (cheich?tagelmust?), which are way softer and comfortable.

France outlawed not only hi jabs but banned all religious symbols in public schools. You can't wear a kippah in a French public school.

Purple/white = feminism

Probably had more meaning to it before everyone started using it as a fashion accessory.

The principle translates well to other aspects of clothing in hot desert travel. Less skin exposed less absorption thru blood vessels.
