/out/, is there any way to wean a person into outdoors activities? My boyfriend loathes hiking, and the few times I convince him to join me he just complains the entire time. He never did that kind of thing as a kid. Is there any way

Yeah, it's doable. Did it with my girlfriend.

Start with things like fires in friends backyards, geocaching, walks in the park.

Maybe rent a canoe at the local park or something. Eventually you should be able to get him to do some overnight car camping trips. It took me a year of these to get the homegirl to do backpacking trips.

All in all it took about 2 years for me to get her into full /out/ mode, but now she's 100% committed, and ready to buy a cabin.

Failing that, dump his NEET ass and find a real man.

I fairly regularly ignore my girlfriend's complaints, depending on the situation. E.G. she wears converses to go for a hike and then complains about getting her shoes muddy whilst I can power on through in my boots, then I'll ignore her.

If, however, she fancies a break and we haven't stopped in 2 hours then we'll stop for 10-15 minutes.

The way I became an outdoors-y type rather than an autist who stayed indoors on Elder Scrolls and read manga was being bought a dog for my 16th birthday a few years back, forced me to get /out/ to walk her and then slowly made me appreciate nature and wildlife more, so get a dogbro.
PLUS if you have a dogbro, your boyfriend loses his use on the hike anyway as you now have company regardless of his whiny ass.

Organize camping trips out in the sticks, invite friends, bring alcohol, have a party out there, hiking to and from of course.

Anything like that you can get him hiking without him realizing that's what he's there for.
